This week we got into geometry, which has always been my worst subject of Math. The object is to take a shape or a polygon and find the area, volume, perimeter, radius, etc. I have never been good at this, I never understand how to find these things or remember the formulas to do so. Here is a site that might be some help to you, but so far nothing has helped me.

Week 10 ~ Measurements
This week in class we got into measurements, like liters, grams. pounds, etc. These measurements are a lifelong tool everyone at one point or another will use. I understand the concept of measurements but remembering all the different conversions gets a little tricky. Here are some games that may help you with measurements.

Week 9 ~ Scientific Notation
This week we are learning about ratio's, percents, scientific notation, irrational and real numbers. Irrational numbers are any numbers that CANNOT be expressed as a fraction. Real numbers are all numbers that are on a number line. Scientific notation is something we can use to make very large or very small numbers to make them easier to deal with. for example take the number 10000 you need to count all the zeros and is should look like this. 1 x 10^4. Other numbers like 0.00089 you have to move the decimal point to make it a number between 1 & 10 so it would be 8.9 and since the zeros come first it should look like this, 8.9 x 10^-4. since you are moving the decimal point back to 8.9 that is what makes it a negative.
Here is a chart below that explains how to multiply and divide in scientific notation form. Here is also a link for a cool way to practice you scientific notation logic. Scientific Notation Practice

School House Rock
When I was a kid in school in order to help us learn our times tables my math teacher would put on these school house rock video's and at first I thought they were a little silly but looking back I relized that putting that stuff to music really helped me and sometimes all these years later I find myself singing those songs when I forget.

Week 8 ~ Decimals
This week we went over decimals and rational numbers and how to do basic operations with decimals, like adding, subtraction, multiplying, and dividing. Basically rational numbers is just any number that can be put in a fraction. Adding decimals is easy all you have to do is line up the decimal points and add straight down like you normally would but remember to keep the decimals lined up. Subtraction is done the same way but remember to fill in the blanks with zeros that can help. Multiplying is pretty easy too all you have to do is line up the numbers multiply normally then count how many spots the decimal point was in each number and add that many to the solution. For example 2.33 x 2.4 = 3 spots so take the solution 5592 and move 3 spots = 5.592. Division is where I have trouble, first just ignore the decimal points and long divide like normal. What you have to remember is to put the decimal point in the same spot as the dividend.
Here is a few reminders of how to convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions
Week 7 ~ Fractions
Today I did my IBL and everything seemed to go good, and everyone seemed to like it. I enjoyed doing the IBL but I’m glad it is finally done and over now I can focus on the rest of the work.
Today in class we talked about integers, intro to fractions, and operations with fractions. We learned what a fraction is how to make up a fractions and how to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Fractions have always been a bit difficult for me so these are some games I found that are helpful...........

I also found this other site that’s pretty cool; it divides all the math games by subject....

Week 6 ~ Factoring
This week we learned about factorization, lowest common multiples (LCM) and greatest common factors (GCF) this has always been a tough subject for me I have just never been good at factoring or multiplying for that matter. Your times tables are really important when it comes to factoring. If you can find all the multiples of a number in your head then your golden, but I am not ones of those people I have always had trouble remembering all the different numbers. However I have found something that works for me, the factoring tree. The factoring tree can be a bit difficult at first but once you do it it’s pretty easy. First you put the number you want to factor at the top. Let’s say number 36 then we see if it can be multiplied by 2 then we right 2 on one side 18 on the other. Next since the number 2 does not have two multiples then you do the 18 and so on until you can’t anymore. At the end you should have a picture like this.......
Then you find that you factors are 2,3,9,and 18
I also found some really cool games that are mall about factoring, here are the links....

IBL Project
Did my IBL Trial the other day and I don't know if it was the math or the fractions or just the school age kids at work being difficult but it didn't seem to go so well so I did some tweaking and tried it again this time with my nieces and nephews and it seemed to go much better. So hopefully it will goes good tomorrow also.

Project and Exam #2
I have finished up my IBL project and hope everything goes well for me on Wednesday because I hate presentations and public speaking so I hope it goes by fast. I' am also trying to study for this exam which seems to be going better than the venn diagrams in the last chapter, I wont be sure tell I see the test.

Week 5
I was unable to attend class this week due to some car issue's, then to make matters worse I've been without Internet for a few weeks now making it even harder to stay caught up with my school work. But now everything seems to be settling down so lets hope I can catch up and I haven't fallen to far behind.
I looked at chapter 3 the other day and the different number bases is a little hard to understand, I have to admit I'm lost, when it comes to that I just cant wrap my brain around it.

No Class
I am very grateful for the power outage this week at MCC. It gave me the chance to get some work done and catch up on my reading which really seems to help. The first exam wasn't too bad however the Venn diagrams is not something I am very good at so I'm not sure how well I did, Ill have to just wait and see. So far class is going pretty good and the weeks seem to be flying by.

Week One
OK, So I've never really done a blog before so I hope I did it right.
It's been a crazy few weeks trying to wrap up my winter semester and beginning my summer classes. I have never had to go to school in the summer before. Summer has always been my time to be free and do whatever I wanted, so staying on task this semester is going to be a little challenging. So far class seems to be going good , its very fast paced so right now I'm just trying to keep up and figure out what exactly I need to be doing, but I think Ill get there.
